     Researchers should be aware that the Forename of William Spencer's wife is recorded in various Public Records as either Ruth or Hannah.
     The Marriage Entry confirms the names of all parties and the 1841/1851 Census Entries shows that William's Trade is either 'Joiner' or 'Carpenter'.
     His wife is not listed as being at home in the 1841 Census but 'Ruth' is present in 1851, where her Place of Birth is entered as Castle Donington in Leicestershire.
     In 1861 she is recorded as being resident in the household of her daughter Ann Shaw, but as 'Hannah', the place of her Birth is as the 1851 Entry, confirming to me that 'Ruth' and 'Hannah' are one and the same person.
     I have not located a suitable entry in the 1871 Census, therefore I believe that she may have died at sometime before April 1871 when that Census was undertaken.
     I have also not been able to categorically identify a Death/Burial entry as there are several 'near' ones recorded.⁶

     The 1861 U.K.Census  listed her as a daughter of the Head of Household - William Shaw, at White House, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, who is recorded as -

     Stephen Hickton was born in 1801.


     Stephen Hickton was married to Ann Allen on Monday, 10 September 1827 at the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.

     Stephen Hickton was left a Widower on the Death of his wife, Ann, whose Death was Registered in the Belper Registration District, in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1845.²

     Stephen Hickton died in 1869 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, his Death was Registered at the Belper Register Office in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1869.³
     The Surname of HIGTON is spelled variously in many documents as HICTON and HICKTON all entries made in this website are as seen, in order that researchers might more easily search for the information on the www.

This Family has been extensivly researched and the results Published on Ancestry.com Website under 'Public Member trees'.
I have not personally researched records prior to those of Stephen Hickton and his family, but have yet to set aside time to do this, suffice to say that the information that is probably available reaches the mid 15C and therefore merits further research work by me...

     Sarah Hannah Gould, daughter of Thomas Gould and Betsy Cooper, was born in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, in 1874, her Birth was Registered at the Belper Register Office in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1874.¹

     Richard Gould, son of Thomas Henry Gould and Mary Elizabeth Higton, was born in The Dale, Wirksworth, Derbyshire, on Monday, 30 August 1915, his Birth was Registered at the Belper Register Office in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1915.¹      He was Baptised on Wednesday, 13 October 1915 in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Wirksworth, Derbyshire .

     Richard Gould, son of Thomas Henry Gould and Mary Elizabeth Higton, was married to Kathleen Mary Walker in Nottinghamshire in 1943.
     Their Marriage was recorded in the East Retford Registration District in the Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter of 1943.³

     Richard Gould, son of Thomas Henry Gould and Mary Elizabeth Higton, died in April 1990 in Nottinghamshire, his Death was Registered at the East Retford Register Office in the Apr-May-Jun Quarter of 1990, He was survived by his wife, Kathleen.⁴
