William Spencer

ID# 37282, born 17 August 1777, died 1855
Father*William Spencer born say 1750
Mother*Elisabeth born say 1750
He was Baptised on Sunday, 17 August 1777 in Holy Trinity Church, Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire .
Holy Trinity Church Baptismal Register Entry - "Entry - William, son of Wm. & Elisabeth Spencer was Baptized."1

William Spencer, son of William Spencer and Elisabeth, was married to Ruth Twigge on Wednesday, 27 April 1803 at the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.
the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin Marriage Register - "William Spencer & Ruth Twigg both of this Parish were Married in this Church by Banns the 27th Day of April 1803.
     By me N. Hubbersty, Curate.
This Marriage was solemnized between us - William Spencer and Ruth Twigg.
In the presence of - John Twigg and Elizabeth Twigg."2

In the 1841 U.K.Census, held on Sunday, 6 June 1841, William was recorded as the first person in the Household at Wirksworth, Derbyshire,
also in the Household were Ann Spencer and Margaret Shaw,
the listing for the Household is -
; William Spencer     60     Joiner     Yes (Born in this County.)3
; Ann Shaw     25     ---     Yes (Born in this County.)3
; Margaret Shaw     2m     ---     Yes (Born in this County.)3

In the 1851 U.K.Census, held on Sunday, 30 March 1851, William was recorded as the Head of the Household at Wirksworth, Derbyshire, also in the Household were Ruth Spencer and Margaret Shaw,
the listing for the Household is -

William Spencer, son of William Spencer and Elisabeth, died in 1855 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, his Death was Registered at the Belper Register Office in the Oct-Nov-Dec Quarter of 1855, He was survived by his wife, Ruth.5

Researchers should be aware that the Forename of William Spencer's wife is recorded in various Public Records as either Ruth or Hannah.
The Marriage Entry confirms the names of all parties and the 1841/1851 Census Entries shows that William's Trade is either 'Joiner' or 'Carpenter'.
His wife is not listed as being at home in the 1841 Census but 'Ruth' is present in 1851, where her Place of Birth is entered as Castle Donington in Leicestershire.
In 1861 she is recorded as being resident in the household of her daughter Ann Shaw, but as 'Hannah', the place of her Birth is as the 1851 Entry, confirming to me that 'Ruth' and 'Hannah' are one and the same person.
I have not located a suitable entry in the 1871 Census, therefore I believe that she may have died at sometime before April 1871 when that Census was undertaken.
I have also not been able to categorically identify a Death/Burial entry as there are several 'near' ones recorded.6
