On His marriage certificate he stated he was 38 when in fact he was 42. He always said that he forgot his age!! :-) At the outbreak of war he was turned down by the Army and so began a career in nursing, working until retirement at Belmont Road Hospital (latterly known as Newsham General) He died following an appendix operation in 1946 leaving his widow Winifred and daughter Joyce (Known as Joy.)¹
