Thomas and Mary Ann are recorded together with 5 children and 2 servants.

In the 1851 U.K.Census, held on Sunday, 30 March 1851, Thomas was recorded as the Head of the Household at 1 Kilburn Priory, Marylebone, London, also in the Household were Mary Ann Dickins,
the listing for the Household is -

; Mary Ann Dickins     Wife     Married     57     ---     HRT. Ware.3
Thomas and Mary Ann are recorded together with 3 children and 2 servants.

Thomas Dickins died in 1856 in London, his Death was Registered at the Marylebone Register Office in the Jul-Aug-Sep Quarter of 1856, He was survived by his wife, Mary.4

Dickins and Jones' history dates from the 1790s when Thomas Dickins was apprenticed to a draper in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. In 1803 he teamed up with William Smith, opening a linen drapery at 54 Oxford Street, Dickins and Smith. The addition of a third partner, Joseph Stevens, meant that it was as Dickins, Smith and Stevens that the store moved into its Regent Street home three decades later.

That was the start of the shopping hub; under the aegis of John Nash, the architect, the area between Piccadilly and Oxford Circus got a new lease of life as a high-class shopping promenade.

In 1856, the store was rechristened Dickins and Jones and thanks to the emergence of a new suburban middle class, it went from strength to strength. By the 1890s it was rivalling Liberty for its selection of in-vogue Oriental accessories and giftware. The Regent Street site as we know it today was built in the early 1920s at a cost of pounds 1m, or pounds 30.5m today. The Argyll extension was added in 1939 and the tea dances in the building's Dome Restaurant became legendary.

The store became part of Harrod's Stores in 1914, after Thomas Dickins' grandsons showed no interest in joining the trade. House of Fraser bought Harrods in 1959, gaining Dickins and Jones. Two other Dickins and Jones stores, in Richmond and Epsom, will stay open, although eventually, as House of Fraser refurbishes its estate, the name will be allowed to die out.
