George Suffolk, son of Thomas Suffolk and Ann Day, died on Sunday, 9 October 1831, in Mr. Arnold's home at Scarboro, Rugeley, Staffordshire, after a fall at Rugeley Races.
The Staffordshire Advertiser
Stafford Saturday October 15 1831
An accident of a serious nature occurred at Rugeley
Races on Friday. Mr. G. Dale, Butcher, of this town,
and Mr. George Suffolk of Haywood, Shoemaker,
were riding a race between the heats, when the
horse of the latter swerved, and his foot coming
out of the stirrup, he was thrown with great force on
his head upon a rail, and such was the violence of the
concussion, that his head was most dreadfully fractured.
He was carried to Mr. Arnold's, at Scarboro', a short
distance from the course, where every attention
was paid to him; and he lingered there in the most
excruciating agony until Sunday morning, when death
terminated his sufferings, which must have been very
great, as he was obliged to be held down in his bed
most of the time, but he never spoke after the accident.
