     James Black was married to Sophia Harriet Spens on Saturday, 22 October 1814 at Linlithgow, Scotland, James may have resided at 17 Blythswood Square, Glasgow and Allander House, Milngavie though this reference may pertain to a James Black of James Black and Co., calico printers, who had their works between Station Road and Allander Water. The parents of the brothers who set up this firm were James Black (brother of Rev. John Black (1741- 1836) who married Elizabeth Summers) and Catherine Lamb.
According to David Black in Australia, James Black lived at Blythswood Square, Glasgow.1

     James Black was left a Widower on the death of his wife, Sophia about 1835.1

     James Black was married to Lillie Wilsone on Monday, 15 February 1836 at Barony Parish, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, daughter of the eminent Glasgow surgeon Charles Wilsone.1

     His Will registered at Scottish Archives of "James Black, Merchant in Glasgow, father of James Spens Black, also father of youngest son Wisone Black only child of the marriage to Lilias Wilson."1
