In 1809 "On Thursday the 13th inst, at Stilton, Huntingdonshire, much lamented by his family and friends. Mr Joseph Tipper, of Newark-upon-Trent" (Derby Mercury 20.07.1809, from John Wain); [this might well be at the well-known Stilton Inn, whilst travelling the Great North Road between Newark and London]; the will of Joseph Tipper, a Pattenmaker of Newark, was proved in the Diocesan Court of York on 16.08.1809, the Executor being Samuel Tipper, a Bookseller of Leadenhall Street, London; a life interest in his estate was left to his wife Mary, then to his three sons, Samuel, Philip and ?"Benj" when 21 (Death Duty Registers, Kew.)2

The death occurred suddenly at Stoke
Gabriel, South Devonshire, on the 6th inst.,
of Mr. Arthur David Alban, O.B.E., who
was in his 66th year. He was a son of the
late Major T. C. Alban, of the Bombay
Staff Corps, and for a time was a day boy
and subsequently a boarder at Cheltenham
College. Later on he passed a competitive
examination for a student interpretership in
the Levant, and in 1893 began a life con-
nection with the Consular service. He was
first stationed at Constantinople, and succes-
siveley at Beirut and Damascus, Alexandria,
Cairo, and again at Alexandria as Consul
General.5
