William Tipper

ID# 6820, born 10 December 1666, died July 1743
Father*Thomas Tipper born abt 1640
Mother*Jane Frost born say 1640, died Mar. 1704
RelationshipGreat-grandson of Henry Tipper
He was Baptised on Friday, 10 December 1666 in St. Michael & All Angels Church, Kniveton, Derbyshire .
St. Michael & All Angels Church Baptismal Register Entry - "William Tipper, son of Thomas Tipper was Baptised."1

     William Tipper was married to Anne Nutto in 1696 at St. Michael & All Angels Church, Kniveton, Derbyshire, The Kniveton Register states "William Tipper and Ann Nutto married not at Kniveton";
the next Register Entry is for their son, William.2,3

In 1705 Kniveton: "That there is but one Papist abiding in the parish of kniveton aforesaid, his name is William Tipper, a mean man, that hath no estate of his own, but rents a small tenement from year to year which may perhaps keep 4 or 5 cows. His wife is a Protestant, but he hath four small children, three boys and a girl which (as we suppose) are all baptised after the way of the Church of Rome."4

On 8 October 1706 Kniveton: "... a very ordinary and ignorant man and, being formerly a servant in a Papist's family, he was perverted by them. He is a husbandman by calling and holds some little land in the said parish upon a rack rent... Isaac Greatorex, vicar."
Editor's notes: The family which "perverted" Tipper were presumably the Merrys of Kniveton, a younger branch of the Merrys of Barton Blount. Gilbert Merry registered his Kniveton estates in 1717 at £16 / 13s per annum... There are also no records of the baptisms of William Tipper's children in the (Kniveton Parish) register; only the registration of his son Thomas appears in it on 4 December 1704.4

William Tipper was left a Widower at the age of 54, on the death of his wife, Anne in May 1721 in Kniveton, Derbyshire.

William Tipper, son of Thomas Tipper and Jane Frost, died in July 1743.

He was buried in St. Michael & All Angels Church, Kniveton on Friday, 26 July 1743.
St. Michael & All Angels Church Parish Register Entry - 'but this could equally be his son or a nephew.2'

William is the un-named "Tipper of Brassington", father of John, the first entry in the "Tippers of Wirksworth and Brassington" in "Ince's Pedigrees and Sketches of Pedigrees of families in Wirksworth and other places thereabouts in Derbyshire compiled from Abstracts of Title, Wills, Deesd and other Documents, Church and Churchyard notes, Bible entries, Court Rolls and from information of various people as to their descent by William Norris Ince begun in 1824 and continued at Wakefield to 1860"; --- the entries continue down to Joseph 1811 and his siblings.5

William's details were edited on 25 January 2011.

Thomas Tipper1

ID# 6831, born about 1640
Father*Robert Tipper1 born say 1608, died Sep. 1673
RelationshipGrandson of Henry Tipper

Thomas Tipper is considered to be the earliest known member of the Kniveton/Wirksworth Group of the Upper Dove Valley Tipper Families.2,3

Thomas Tipper, son of Robert Tipper, was born in Kniveton, Derbyshire, about 1640, No Baptism has been found - the presumption is that he is the second Thomas born to Robert in the early 1640's - the Kniveton Parish Register is virtually non-existent in the period 1643 to 1662 because of the disruption of the Civil War and there is no entry for him; it is unlikely that he would have been born much later than 1644 to be married in 1664 to Jane Frost (bn.1631); alternatively he is born at an earlier date to someone other than Robert, but no other Tippers are visible in the Kniveton register which starts in1592, nor have others been found as yet in the locality; a possibility is that he is the son of Thomas Tipper (bn.1606) of Alstonfield.4

Thomas Tipper, son of Robert Tipper, was married to Jane Frost on Friday, 18 April 1664 at St. Michael & All Angels Church, Kniveton, Derbyshire.
St. Michael & All Angels Church Marriage Register - "Thomas Tipper married Jane Frost (possibly on her 33rd. Birthday)."4,5

Thomas Tipper, son of Robert Tipper, died,"No details of Death or Burial have yet been located."6
