     Albert joined the Royal Fusiliers on 04.09.1914 at the outbreak of WW1 and served in France from 1915. On attestation he gave his occupation as Clerk, his address 17 Haywood Street, Shelton, and his wife's name as "Cissie" of 106 Richmond Street. He was wounded in 1916 and spent 250 days in hospital before being invalided out in 1917 after amputation of his left leg. He received a pension.⁴
