William Stephen Tipper the son of Arthur and Frances Ellen Tipper of "Arnside", 79 King's Avenue, New Malden, Surrey was enlisted at Hampton Hill, Middlesex into the 99th Field Company of the Corps of Royal Engineers. On 4 September 1915 he was sent to France, where he was , at some time, promoted to the rank of Sergeant and had been given the Service Number of 49468.
On the 13th of September 1916, on service in Flanders, he was Killed in Action.
Interestingly his CWGC Memorial Inscription is said to be on the "Doiran Memorial" which was erected in the Doirani, Regional Unit of Kilkis in Central Macedonia.
He was awarded 3 Service medals - The Victory Medal, the British Medal and the 15 Star.5
